Hi all and welcome to my blog,
First and foremost, my name is Phuthego Precious and Nthoke and I will be sharing my Travel story with you guys, I will mention notable tourist sites and places suitable for a student on a budget. I am building my brand on and around the ecstatic students who want to explore and visit many areas with a limited budget.
I am from Limpopo studying in the Eastern Cape at Nelson Mandela University. I am studying for my Public Relations and Management diploma, currently in my second year. Being from a landlocked province transitioning to a province that is not, was a great experience. Last year I had a list of places that I wanted to visit but being a first-year student in an unknown province, I was cautious, so I did not fulfill all the activities.
This year being familiar with the area now, I think I am ready to finish the visit to the places and it would also prove to be beneficial to my schoolwork. Taking time away from a stressful academic environment can help clear your head and focus upon returning. It helps build confidence when you travel as someone who is experiencing these places as a media and communication student, you get to apply your knowledge and professional perspective to these places and question what attracted you to them.
Every time you travel alone, you learn something new, and you get to choose the travel method and stick with the one you prefer the most. Finding the right type of transport is very important, I experience this when I first arrived in Gqeberha I had trouble finding a good, means of transport for me. I tried to use the taxis, but I found it uncomfortable as they functioned differently from how the taxis in my hometown back in Limpopo.
I started using Uber and liked them as I felt that using transport that has registration would help with accountability should anything happen, and you get more room and privacy. The same situation with the transport back home, I used to take the Intercape bus to Johannesburg then my parents would fetch me from there but now that I have the confidence to travel on my own, I have transitioned to taking a flight to OR Tambo airport and making my way home on my own.
*Side note, I would advise that you use an Uber if you are traveling alone and send a friend or family member your location, especially in new and foreign places.
*The map is your friend
*Ask other students and other locals to recommend places where you can get good service without spending much
*Keep at least R200 cash on hand in case they prefer cash in place of a card or maybe your phone dies.
*Pack light and make sure the luggage you carry does not prohibit your mobility.
* Should you get lost on your way to a destination ask for directions from a reputable source.
* Never tell anyone that you are traveling alone
* keep your phone secured and do not take it out unnecessarily
And these are just some beginner tips I have for you guys.
As A Public Relations Practitioner in training, I believe that going out and socializing can help me establish my field and networks. It helps me evaluate different methods of dealing with people’s images.
The exposure to the cultural differences has been one of the biggest game-changers in my life and with that I want you to join me on my journey as I visit tourist sites and travel stories. I am thrilled that you will be joining me on this journey of discovery as we navigate an adventurous life as a student with a budget.
