Being from a landlocked province, we have limited selections of food, and we don’t get to experience international foods very often, So it must not be surprising that I had to try Chinese food as it was in my price range.
I previously mention Michaels’s Chinese takeaway which Is one of the few establishments that serve Chinese culture foods in Port Elizabeth, it is situated in summerstrand and this is their website https://www.michaelstakeaway.co.za/
• Chinese food is nutritional, very diverse, and very balanced and provides everything your body and metabolism need to be healthy.
• In most parts of the world, vegetables are “add-ons” to other dishes, but in Chinese cuisine, vegetables are the main ingredients in the dishes. The Chinese believe that there should be more portions of vegetables with a few meaty sides. Meat is important because it adds complex carbohydrates.
• Chinese foods are very low on sugar, refined carbs, and high in fat, which enabled our bodies to easily recognize when it is full. This enables people who eat Chinese food to eat a more appropriate amount of food and not overstuff their bodies with unnecessary calories
• Chinese foods use almost zero milk products, meat is used just a little to provide balance to the meal, while the great focus is placed on rice, noodles, and vegetables.

Cultural benefits
The Chinese culture has always believed and emphasized the positive energy and negative energy in the universe. YIN represents Yin energy and YANG represents Yang energy. They must be equally balanced to create a harmonious and healthy state
There are elements that are visible in both YIN and YANG meaning that some Yin elements belong to Yang and some yang elements belong to yin. The importance of this balance of power has been a part of Chinese thinking for thousands of years. It has become a basic guide for social, political, medical, and food use.
China is famous for being the kingdom of food. The unique geographical environment, local products and ingredients, local customs, cultural traditions, national heritage, and some popular authentic local flavours have played an important influence on the development of Chinese cuisine as it is today.
Etiquette
One of my biggest fears is using chopsticks and ending up embarrassing myself, so I practice until I get it right. It’s a known fact that the Chinese are strict when it comes to table manners and we should respect that, here are some tips to remember when dining in a Chinese restaurant
Chopsticks
~ Do not stick the end of your chopsticks into your food like a spear,
~Do not swing your chopsticks around different dishes trying to choose what you want to add to your plate as sometimes group orders are delivered in platters
~Use chopsticks to eat soup, rice, peanuts, and virtually any food on your plate, whether small, round, or chewy
~tip for the good service
~Ask about the dish you would like to try out
~Alert the waiters if you have any allergies so they can notify the chef
I had a fun time at this establishment and I would recommend that you visit it, friendly service and affordable prices but overall the food experience is up to standard that I have to take a takeaway back home to practice my chopstick skills.
